The damage

They rasp and suck leaf cells, causing bronzing, premature leaf drop and poorer grain fill. They explode during hot, dry periods.

Biological strategy

Chromobacterium violaceum acts on mites by contact and ingestion, and Beauveria bassiana colonizes the individuals that escape, breaking the reinfestation cycle.

When to apply

At the first patches of bronzed leaves, with extra attention during dry periods.

How to monitor

Pocket lens on the undersides of the leaves, especially at field edges and during dry spells.
